W.A.Y (We Are You) (2019)
Sung Im Her is joined by dancers/co-creators Jin-Han Choi, Francesco Migliaccio and Sidney Barnes and Belgian band Husk Husk for her first large-scale theatre work, W.A.Y. (We Are You).
W.A.Y stemmed from a desire to make a work which celebrates queerness, offering up a positive stance in what is often a hostile environment in Korea, Sung Im Her’s country of origin. Slipping between quartets of smarting intensity and duets of exquisite tenderness, the work is accompanied and at times propelled by a driving electronic score.
Commissioned by Arts Council Korea with support in kind from Cambridge Junction, Winchester University, Studio Wayne McGregor and Roehampton University, W.A.Y (We Are You) premiered at Grand Hall ARKO, Seoul in September 2019.
