NUTCRUSHER (2019- )
Starkly repetitive and energetic, NUTCRUSHER looks at sexual objectification and power. Inspired by the #metoo movement, and its slow but dramatic arrival in Korea, Sung Im Her draws our attention to the gaze, to how we look and what affect that may have. It is also an uncompromising yet playful riposte to the Nutcracker, to the strictures of ballet and dance training, and a joyfully fierce reclaim of the body. It was first shown in Seoul in January 2019 - where it was hailed as a seminal feminist work.
Performed by Martha Pasakopoulou, Chihiro Kawasaki/Yen-Ching Lin and Sung Im Her. Commissioned by Arts Council Korea, NUTCRUSHER premiered at ARKO, Seoul.
